2025 European Youth Capital Application Process;

The European Youth Capital is a title given to European cities for a year by the European Youth Forum. The choosen cities have a chance to exhibit their cultural, social, politic, and economic life and development program.

In this process, Youth Organisation Forum (Go-For), the member of European Youth Forum, and organisations among Izmir, members of Go-For, worked hardly with coordination of the Youth Studies and Social Projects Department. The main focus of this process and work is young people themselves. Our president Tunç Soyer mentioned: “We are working so hard to include youngsters in social life and desicion making processes, and provide young wealth, and increase accessibility of young people to art. We unite our all departments and teams with the topic of “young”. In case of Izmir’s getting the title, lots of young from Europe will come to our city and we are planning an intense youth program. The second century of Izmir will be owned by young people”.

When it comes to the municipality’s activities, during last 3 years, there are important projects and works had done to increase youngsters’ participation to desicion-making mechanisms. With cooperations of the related departments and youth organisations among the city, the Youth Action Plan was prepared. The Youth Studies and Social Projects Department within Izmit Metropolitan Municipality Social Projects Department was reshaped and renamed. In addition, there is an active City Council Youth Parliement. Also, the Youth Municipality, aimed increase participation of young people, is under construction.

The youth vision and works belonging Izmir Metropolitan Municipality brings results that Izmir passed the first round of application of the European Youth Capital 2025. The short list of 2025 European Youth Capital is Fuenlabrada from Spain, Lviv from Ukraine, and Tromse from Norway. The winner will be announced in the prize-giving ceremony in Tiran from Albenia which is the winner of 2022 European Youth Capital.
